Blu-Ray is not the clear successor to DVD. It just so happens that it is going to beat out HD-DVD. Blu-ray will not be excepted by the masses just on cost alone. Who pays $30 dollars for a movie? Home theater buffs will carry this format for a while but within a couple of years there will probably be a cheaper solution than blu-ray with the same or better quality. Sony had a temporary win here.

You make a very good point but this is not the year 2000 any more. Technology is improving at such a rapid rate the longevity of any product is at risk. My point is that there will always be some group that is touting the latest and greatest in hardware and software advancements and to think that a console can keep a 5 year life span is not going to happen. It looks like the Blu-ray decision for Sony is going to pay off but i still don't think that blu-ray will have the impact that DVD did. T...
I can agree with that the games for the PS3 will get better looking. The part about many years to come though, that is not going to work. In three maybe for years tops the PS3 will be obsolete. Yes it will still have support but the hardware in it will be yesterdays news. What is the point of making a console so powerful if it takes three to four years to harness the full power of it?
You guys can have a little PS3 funboy orgy while you wait for it to install. By the way, if blu-ray is so great and holds so much data, what is up with all these games having to install data on to your hard drives? Between DMC4 and GTA4 thats more than 10G of data. You have thrown away about 1/4 of your hard drive if you own a 40 gig on just two games.
